On the 22nd August 2022 international maritime institutions submitted an official memorandum to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) formally announcing the decision to declassify the High Risk Area of the Indian Ocean. The declassification is expected to come into effect at 0001hrs UTC on 1 Jan 2023.
